What is the lifespan of an urban Kingspan Water Tank?
All Kingspan Water Tanks are built using AQUAPLATE® steel to withstand the Australian climate. Kingspan tanks are covered by an industry leading 20-year Corrosion Warranty & 10-year Construction Warranty.
Where is the best location to place my water tank?
This is governed by several factors:
– Slope of the site
The most suitable site will be on level ground, away from retaining walls. Extra installation expense may be incurred if your site needs to be excavated to make a level foundation.
– Downpipe location
You should aim to connect as many downpipes to feed your tank as is practical. The closer the water tank is to your downpipes, the more efficient the water harvesting system will be. If downpipes need to be diverted and run horizontally over long distances then the installation expense will increase, and the efficiency of the system may be compromised.
– Aesthetics
While a well-positioned water tank can add a design element to your home, most people are not likely to install a water tank where it is highly visible. This is an important consideration.
– Proximity to laundry or toilets
– Where a water tank is used to feed a toilet or washing machine, a licensed plumber must install it. Again, the shorter the run of pipe work from the tank site to the internal appliance, the less expense will be incurred in installation.
Can I drink the water from the water tank?
Kingspan Water Tanks are an Australian approved storage system for drinkable water and are made using food grade polymer preventing any water to metal contact (AS4020:2018).
Kingspan Water tanks are made from a food-grade AS4020 certified material, so they can be used for storage of potable water. There are filtration devices available that can help to safeguard your tank water is safer for drinking. Please contact us if you have more specific questions about water filtration.
Odour or Taste
Care should be taken to ensure that contaminants are not introduced into the water tank. If any odour or taste is noticed, the catchment area should be checked for contaminants such as lichen or deceased animals as these are known to affect water quality. New tanks should be flushed out if slight odour or taste is present.
Do I need to do any preparation work before my water tank arrives?
Before your water tank arrives you will need to have a tank base prepared. Tanks should not be placed directly onto the ground and must be installed on a firm, stable platform with no overhang of the tank over the edge of the base. They can be placed onto a concrete pad or an engineered timber platform. For further information refer to Kingspan Tank Base Preparation Guide.
Is it okay to use the first fill of water from our new water tank?
The first fill of water in tanks should be discarded prior to use.

What Size Water Tank Do I Need?
If you are installing your water tank to collect rainwater then you will need to work out your catchment area (roof area) and find out your average annual rainfall. Then use the ‘Water Catchment Calculator’ to work out approximately how many litres of water you can catch per year. Obviously, the household water consumption varies considerably for everyone but as a guide, an average family of 4 with a small garden use approximately 280,000 – 300,000 Litres per year for general household use.
Is the Liner Safe for Drinking Water?
Yes. Our liners pass all the Australian and International standards for potable liners. Polyethylene and Metallocene are generally recognised as the most stable and safest food grade materials available.
Are Your Rural Water Tanks Australian Made?
Yes. All Kingspan Rural Water Tanks are made in Australia. We use Bluescope Steel and are the only tank company that fabricate our reinforced tank liners in our own factory. This means we can control the quality of the product from manufacturing to installation.
Can I Collect the Rainwater Off the Roof of My Water Tank?
Yes. We offer Rainsaver Caps that can be installed around the circumference of the tank roof and the water flows down the roof corrugations, through the Rainsaver Cap screens and into the tank. Unlike other roof harvesting systems, this option allows you to collect the tank roof water whilst keeping your tank sealed from dust, insects and other vermin.
What are Sacrificial Anodes and Why Do I Need Them?
Sacrificial Magnesium Anodes are used to prevent corrosion on your tank. The Magnesium is a weaker metal than the ZINCALUME® or COLORBOND®steel tank shell, therefore the anode becomes the first defence against corrosion if electrolysis starts to occur. Correct installation and Rhino’s 5 year maintenance program is therefore imperative to ensure your tank is kept in prime condition.
Are the Tank Trusses Hot Dipped Galvanised for Added Strength and Durability?
All the trusses used in the installation of a Kingspan Rural Water Tank are hot dipped galvanised ensuring protection from condensation corrosion.
Can I Get a Rebate/Grant for My Water Tank?
From time to time both State and Federal Governments offer rebates and grants for the installation of water tanks. These rebates and grants are often dependant on your specific location and also the intended usage of the tank. Due to these variations it is best to make contact with your local authorities to see if any rebates or grants are available.
